Are DJ Signs or Banners OK at Wedding Receptions?
by dj_stylus on Mar.06, 2009, under Random Stuff
When I first started DJ’ing many years ago, I had a big banner that advertised the name of my DJ service. I did a lot of school dances back then, and proudly displayed the banner at every dance. Later on, I was scheduled to DJ the wedding reception of a friend of mine. When I was discussing things with her beforehand, she requested that I not display the banner. “But how will potential clients know who I am?” is the thought that ran through my mind. But, I also believe that my customers are always right, especially the ones who are brides :-) . I didn’t display the banner, and haven’t displayed that banner since then.
That wasn’t my last sign though. A few years later I had a small sign made (1′ x 2′) that again advertised my name. I used it at weddings and never had any complaints. But, part of me felt like this was wrong. I get paid to entertain a room full of guests, not to spend the night trying to book more gigs through advertising. Afterall, if someone is interested, they will probably ask me for a business card anyway. So, I ditched signs altogether and am confident I made the right decision.
But, I’m still curious, so……..I made a poll. If you care to, please cast your opinio

Banners are ok but i think they will make you look desperate for dj work,I think having some professional business cards made and put them on a stand at the exit to the venue is much better so stick with that.good dj’s like yourself don’t need banners.

Banners aren’t a big deal as long as you dont go too crazy. And it isn’t right to say your not trying to book another gig at every event. DJs get business from business. You dont just make a website and get every weekend booked up. When you’re at a party or specifically a wedding, you want the people to know who you are and you want the people to say, “Hey this is a great DJ, I think I want to book him!” If a party planner specifically says not to put one up, you dont do it. But if it never comes up, you are promoting yourself so I see no problem in it at all. I have a small banner I bring inside at every event (you can see at my site http://www.DJJSIZZLE.com) but I also always have my car parked somewhere by the door which is covered in my logos and designs!
